In an effort to provide a team approach to patient care, the hand therapists work closely with you and your physician. Using this approach we determine if a splint will be required to assist with your rehabilitation.
All splinting services are provided by Occupational Therapists who have comprehensive knowledge of the upper extremity. The splint we provide for you may be custom made or
pre-fabricated depending on the need established by your
physician/therapist team.
Splints are provided for a variety of diagnoses. Some include;
- Cumulative trauma disorders
- Nerve injuries
- Tendon injuries
- Sprains and strains
- Tendonitis
- Congenital deformities
- Fractures
Splints may serve many purposes in progressing your rehabilitation.
Some of these include;
- Protecting a repaired nerve or tendon.
- Resting inflamed tissues.
- Providing support while working or playing sports.
- Joint protection and rest for arthritic hands.
- Stretching joints to achieve an increase in motion.
- Pain reduction.
